• Fill in the Pavane and Galliard information sheet and bring it to the next lesson on Thursday.
• Over the NEXT TWO WEEKS complete independent learning tasks from the Stretch & Challenge menu handed out in class. You must do at least the Appetizer plus either Light Bites and/or ‘For the larger appetite’.

Group F -Instrumental Set Works

Composition

Choose your brief and main influence and submit the latter (find the pro forma on the A2 Moodle) onto Moodle by the end of Tuesday (for F group) / Monday (for G group)

History and Listening

Read pages 2-7 and 22-5 in the Handbook by Wednesday (F group) / Monday (G group)

You should be doing serious revision, making sure that you know both features in the score and the spin needed for different questions. Make sure you have all the revision notes – they are on Moodle if you need to reprint any in one handy pack.

Make sure you have handed in your printed score and coversheet. Prepare your score for making the sound file

Chorale

You are redoing two or more phrases from 2012/2013 – making sure they are really as excellent as you can make them.

You need to be doing serious revision on:

• Context essays
• Comparison questions
• Features for comparison
• Features from scores for skeleton scores

Harmony

Q4 and Q5 sheet given out (and some started) in class

Composition

• Make sure you have prepared your sleeve note in rough ready for the mock this week
• Complete a cover sheet
• Make a sound (as opposed to a printed) version of your score ready for making the sound file and save it onto the H drive

Instrumental Use your notes from class to write a mini essay comparing the use of tonality in two of the set works. Work will be shared in the first lesson back after Easter – give as much detail as possible.

Applied and listening

• Revise all of your Applied set works. We will be doing recall and timed-essay work after Easter. You need to learn FEATURES of the works that can help support whatever you are arguing.
• Do at least three extra listening exercises on Moodle. Some are in your red books and there are some other extras as well. The more you do the better.

Chorale

Compulsory chorale 2011 – on Moodle if you lose it (optional chorales 2004 & 2010 – also on Moodle)

Anthology

When you return we will be doing a variety of knowledge-testing activities around comparison, context and information useful for skeleton scores

• Learn all the comparison questions
• Learn the key context points
• Revise using the revision pack and annotated anthologies – you need to know these pieces like the back of your hand
• Practice answering comparison questions across all four pieces and check your answers in the revision pack

Harmony

Complete the 2011 questions 4 and 5 given out in class (I have given out the wrong music for Q5 – here is the right one)

Update your anthologies using revision notes and notes on Moodle. I will be looking at a random sample of anthologies to check you have done this.

There will be a timed essay during your first lesson back after Christmas. In preparation for this essay revise the Beethoven, Schumann and Louis Armstrong works,

Instrumental/Vocal

• Update your anthologies with notes from Moodle and from comparisons work. I will take in anthologies for inspection on MONDAY 12th for G group and TUESDAY 13th for F Group (NOTE: this is a week later than originally set). You must cover the Mozart, Poulenc, Kinks, Van Morrison, Faure and Tavener.
• Complete a grid using the Coggles done in class on Structure and Texture in the Mozart and Poulenc (link)
• Learn the Standard Comparison Questions on pp. 17-18 of your Course Handbook for Harmony, Melody, Structure and Texture. You should also review the answers to these on Coggles/Comparison grids. You will be tested on your ability to remember the questions AND their answers for the Poulenc and Mozart in the first week back.

Composition

Find two more pieces that you can take influences and describe in detail specific features of TEXTURE, INSTRUMENTATION or HARMONY that you can steal for your own compositions. You can present this in any way you want but it must be detailed and refer to specific bar numbers.
