Mussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition, Cattle (orch. Ravel)

Three useful textures and orchestrations here:

• At the beginning there is a gruff ostinato-like accompaniment on bassoons and lower strings with a tuba melody (pretty high for the poor old tuba!)
• At Fig. 39 (around 0’40) there is a very effective chordal texture. The parallel triads are mostly in the strings but reinforced elsewhere. It grows in strength
• At Fig. 42 there is an expanded Tutti version of the beginning
