Music Homework – Group BB – w/c 16th November

Anthology
Make sure that your anthologies are up to date in their annotations for the Haydn, Dekker and Dowland. I will be conducting checks during lessons next week.

Music Homework – Group BD – w/c 9th November

Anthology (Vocal – for Wednesday)
For next WEDNESDAY please make sure you have annotated your scores using the notes provided on Moodle. I will be taking a random sample for checking and we will be doing an exercise based on you having done so.

Harmony (for Thursday)
Please Exercise 1 on page 15 of the Harmony Workbook. Make sure that you follow the Double SLAP guidelines.

Composition
Please develop your idea using feedback given and adding further influences to improve your texture

Music Homework – Group BB – w/c 9th November

Anthology (Vocal – for Wednesday)
For next WEDNESDAY please make sure you have annotated your scores using the notes provided on Moodle. I will be taking a random sample for checking and we will be doing an exercise based on you having done so.

Harmony (for Wednesday)
Please Exercise 1 on page 15 of the Harmony Workbook. Make sure that you follow the Double SLAP guidelines.

Composition
Compose your initial idea – either ‘dark’ or ‘light’. You MUST be able to explain at least three influences used in your composition idea.
Please submit your piece in the ‘w/c 9th November’ area on the AS Music Moodle page.

Please do Fingerprint 3 in your Chorale Fingerprint Workbooks. Answer the questions first and then complete the exercises.

Please rework your previous ideas in response to feedback and come up with another sketch. Please annotate your scores with yellow post-it notes so that can tell what different sections are supposed to be.

AS Music Homework – Group BD – w/c 2nd November

Anthology (Instrumental – for Wednesday)

Using the essay planner and the notes in the resources folder on Moodle write an essay on the following title:

“Identify features of the Haydn that are typical of the Classical era”

Your essay should be structured as follows:

  • Introduction
  • NINE clear points in separate short paragraphs
  • Conclusion, incorporating the final point to make TEN in total

NOTE: You need to give at least three clear examples, but the more the better

Anthology (Vocal – for Friday)

  1. Make sure you have read sources 1 and 2 in the Dekker resources folder on Moodle  and made brief notes on Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae (no more than a single side of A4)
  2. Learn how to play up to bar 18 of the Dekker (we are playing it in D – chords and parts for bass and Bb instruments are all on a sheet in the resources folder on Moodle)

Composition (Tom’s Group)
Complete a short section of music representing light. It must refer to at least one clear influence.

1. Devise a scenario that might inspire you to write a Darkness to Light composition (i.e. sunrise or a psychological breakthrough or a film scene in which the forces of light triumph over the forces of darkness)

2. Look on the composition resources Moodle and find at least two specific passages of music that you can take ideas from to represent darkness and two that might represent light. You need to be specific in your descriptions of the music and what aspects of it you are going to take. You can further pieces taken from Moodle elsewhere if you wish. Please use the Pro Forma on Moodle (AS Music – ‘Sleeve notes and planner submissions’ – ‘Influences Initial Tracker’) and submit it on Moodle in the ‘Influences and Planner Submissions’ folder on Music AS moodle BEFORE next lesson.

1. Write an essay comparing texture in Holborne, Bach and Ellington set works. You must submit your essay with the cover sheet issued in class.
2. Complete ‘Haydn worksheet 1’ which was given out in class
3. Read the background notes on the Haydn. Next lesson will start with a quiz on background features in this piece.

Remember that there is no lesson with me on Wednesday so you have two weeks to,complete all of the above.

Composition
Please complete a second idea (and also correct any problems with your first one). It would be helpful if you kept them all in the same file.

1. Write a short essay comparing the Haydn and the Bach in terms of their harmony. This is for Wednesday 4th November

Please note the following:

  • structure the essay around the harmony comparison questions (one paragraph for each question addressing both works)
  • read the Edexcel and RG notes on the Music AS Moodle in the resources folder for Bach and Haydn so that you can generalize your answers, using the specific passages that we have looked at for examples

2. Write two short paragraphs outlining some examples of how Haydn uses humour in the last movement of his quartet. You need to read at least sources 6 & 7 in the resources folder on Moodle to deepen your understanding of this quartet
