A2 Homework – w/c 25th January

Composition
Please submit your piece, using the online text to outline what you have done and what you have left to do.

Chorale
Complete the bass line of the 2005 chorale. Make sure modulations are right and that there are no parallels etc. DON’T DO THE INNER PARTS.

Applied
Please update your anthologies with the info on the worksheet done this week

Instrumental
Use the notes made in class to add to your anthology and mind map (you should have taken a photo of the class notes)

Dig out your November essay ‘ Compare the use of texture and instrumentation in the Bach, Holborne and Ellington set works’. Add a section at the end of this essay on the Miles Davis. It can be in bullet points if you wish but MUST be detailed with specific examples

A2 Homework – w/c 18th January

Applied
Read the first three pages of Source 1 on the Schoenberg Moodle resources folder and the whole of Source 3. Please write a brief summary of modernism, expressionism, emancipated dissonance and Sprechstimme. You may use other internet sources if that is helpful.

Instrumental
 1. Read through the Moodle notes on melody and harmony in the Miles Davis:

Update your anthology and mind map notes

2. Read through your Miles Davis pack and add notes about rhythm to your anthology

Please complete Fingerprints 6 and 7 and also please complete the summary info at the beginning of the booklet for all fingerprints done so far (1-7 & 9)

For THIS FRIDAY please make sure you can play at least the first few page of the Oasis song.

Composition
Alongside your score and annotated Xmas feedback please submit your TRACKER sheet with at least 15 influences documented in the table at the end. For each influence, you must either state exactly the bar number it appears in your score or where the influence is going to be used.

Harmony
For THURSDAY please finish p. 28 of the workbooks.

A2 Homework – w/c 4th January

Mock Schedule:
Monday – Applied Essays
Wednesday – Listening followed by Instrumental Essay

Instrumental – Holborne, Bach, Ellington, Haydn and Davis

Applied – Williams and Bach. You need both to be able to identify key features on a blank anthology (you can come and practice in the classroom if you wish but don’t take them downstairs) and also to understand the main topics (e.g. what is meant by Lutheran). Use the revision notes that were handed out in class – they are also on Moodle.

Listening – read through the notes on short answer questions that are in the Course Handbook (available also online on http://www.alevelmusic.com) and also you could review the information on genre and instrumentation in the detailed GSMIRTH glossary as well as the style period information in the Short History of Music.

Worksheet 15 / Fingerprint 5 on pages 18-19 of the Fingerprint Workbook

You have two weeks to complete your improvements in response to feedback. Please submit your score and also a copy of the feedback sheet with the actions boxes filled in so that I know what you have done. I am happy to look at specific issues and questions if you want to post in the optional submission folder this coming Friday

 

Music Homework – Group BD – w/c 4th January

Anthology and Mock Preparation
We are doing a Bruckner Skeleton score on Friday so please prepare yourselves for that. For the mock you need to:

  • Listen to the set works with thoroughly annotated scores (Haydn, Bach, Bruckner, Dekker & Dowland)
  • Learn the context question info (Haydn and Bach – info in the revision guide I gave you that is also in the resources folder on Moodle)
  • Make sure you know the comparison standard questions (p. 18 of the Handbook) for Melody, Harmony, Texture and Structure and have thought about the answers to them for the Haydn and Bach
  • Know how to use IB and IC-V-I with the melody patterns 3-2-1 and 8-7-8 (notes in the back of the Course Handbook)

Listening Questions – Wednesday 8.45

Harmony – Thursday 10.15
