Write a single page summary of the Webern Quartet op. 22 in terms of its STRUCTURE and SERIAL CONSTRUCTION. I want a bit more detail than you would put in an exam question but I am not looking for a novel!

On Wednesday (D) /Friday (C) we will have a 30 minute timed essay on FIRST movements.

Please write a cadential idea (due Thursday 4th). It should:
- be two-bars plus one beat
- follow the chord sequence I6 – ii6 | I6/4 – V | I.
- end on I in root position and with the melody on the tonic
- consist of a melody in the treble stave and a bass line plus chord labels in the bass
B Group

Due end of Monday 9th. Complete Exercise J3 (p. 34) on Sibelius.
- You should write it on a String Quartet score (Violin I, Violin II, Viola and Cello) but for now you only need write a melody and bass line WITH ROMAN NUMERALS.
- Follow the instructions carefully and make sure your melody treats dissonance correctly and has some articulation and dynamics.
B Group

For the end of TUESDAY please submit a basic idea on Sibelius (see here for instructions). You should keep it SIMPLE with just a bass note and chord label to indicate the harmony and the melody in the treble staff.

You need to make some serious progress. Clear documentation of influences (I will be taking a closer look at the logs this week (download them from Moodle) and in the score. The examiners report is clear that good phrase structures are important.

Year 13 HW w/c September 10th
Submission: Group C end of Wednesday / Group D end of Tuesday
You need to make a proper start on your WCT composition – hand in some sketches and a log with any relevant parts filled in (i.e. influences and perhaps WCT Features)
WCT Weekly log (Sonata) / WCT Weekly log (Sorceror)
- Try and write at least one 8-ish bar idea, preferably two contrasting ones
- Use the resources on the WCT Hub (e.g. look at Basic idea and phrase structures)
- Use the resources on the Composition Moodle to find models and things to steal
- Use the relevant handout to help you (on Moodle)

Write a two bar basic idea using this worksheet (please do it on a separate sheet so I can take it in)
Notes:
- you should have multiple tries until you come up with a really good idea
- make sure the the notes of the melody are either part of the chord or one of the dissonances listed here
- ensure bar 2 is closely based on bar 1
- use plenty of dynamics and articulation
As of Wednesday evening:
- A group should have finished everything up to and including Exercise B1 in the Starting Points booklet
- B group should have finished everything up to and including Exercise A2 the Starting Points booklet
