Music College Applications

There will be a short meeting about applying to music college onTuesday 8th July at 12.45 in the Music Room. If you are considering an application you MUST come to this meeting or let me know in advance because the application procedure separate from and much earlier than UCAS.

Welcome to New AS Students

Welcome to our new students. You will find information on this blog about most things 

Over the summer you were set some tasks:

  1. Complete AS Performance initial proposals for Thursday 5th September
  2. Complete the Short History of Music task for your first music lesson
  3. Brush up on your basic theory (Keys, Chords and Cadences in particular)
  4. Buy a ring binder and a pack of dividers
  5. Make sure your instrument is in good working order
  6. Go through the list of key dates with your parents and make sure they are in diaries

A2 (A) Homework set w/c 23rd June

Composition 

  • Submit your initial sketch and main influence by the end of Tuesday 24th
  • Submit your next sketch and four smaller detailed influences by the end of the week

Instrumental
Watch the YouTube clip: A-level seminar 2009: Haydn Part I

On the second playing answer these questions:
1. What is the returning theme of this piece called?
2. What is the form/structure of this returning theme?
3. Describe the texture of the theme
4. What is meant by functional harmony?

Please complete ready for the lesson on Tuesday

Composition 

  • Submit your initial sketch and main influence by the end of Tuesday 24th
  • Submit your next sketch and four smaller detailed influences by the end of the week

Instrumental
1. Watch the YouTube clip: Corelli-Trio Sonata in D (Edexcel AS/A2 2012)
Make notes and add any relevant details to your anthology

2. Read the Edexcel and Rhinegold articles in your Corelli pack. On your Post Its note down (i) any new features and (ii) any features you don’t understand. Bring the Post Its to the lesson on Monday

  • Decide which of the four briefs you are going to go for
  • Look through Moodle (and elsewhere if you wish) and find a main influence for your piece.
  • Fill in the pro forma on the Composition Moodle and be ready to discuss your influence in class
  • The aim is to expand your musical vocabulary and find a composition task that you are really enthusiastic about
