I will take in your composition again in TWO weeks time to check on your progress (w/c 10th March). You should update the feedback sheet I gave you to reflect what you have done and include that in your submission.

  1. Using the internet and/or a music dictionary or encyclopaedia  work out to what extent a Scherzo and Trio is a typical form for Classical chamber music (e.g. String Quartets etc.)
  2. Use any relevant sources to help you work out what the form of the Scherzo is and to what extent this is a traditional form
  3. Use any relevant sources to help you work out to what extent the combination of instruments Brahms uses is a tradition one.

Please finish Phrase Completion Exercise 2 for the lesson MONDAY (or by the end of the workshop in D2 on Monday at 1.15)

Don’t forget to hand in your composition drafts both on Moodle AND printed off on Friday 14th

Please read Extracts 1-5 of the Source Booklet on Brahms (on Moodle if you forget to take it home, although you have to keep rotating it) then make a bullet-pointed list of features of the Brahms that are typically Romantic, which I will take in after HT.

Finish CW 12 and 13. Check really carefully all Double SLAP elements.

Complete Mock Paper 2008. You must complete it to the highest possible standard or it is a pointless exercise. Use the Double SLAP, Harmonic DOs and DON’Ts (both in Handbook) plus Fingerprint Notes and Bells and Whistles.

Next week I will have a quick look at anything you need quick feedback on in our usual submission. The final submission is then on FRIDAY 14th. Please submit your work as usual on Moodle and also print off a copy of the score, which I will take in during our chorale lesson.

Read the Rhinegold article in your pack on the Stravinsky and familiarise yourself with the background and genre of the piece ready for next week’s lesson starter.
Add the main sections into your score, using the information in your pack. There will be an activity to check this next week!
